To the best of my knowledge, it doesn't work.
The way I tested this was throwing him in the zombie arena on hard and having him beat to death. No damage appeared on the recount, nor did any zombies perish in the action of whaling on him.
With a leveled character, the damage from the damage to attacker perk appears on recount, and zombies can be executed with one shot from the UED plasma rifle after hitting the hero.
